So, if you can’t tell by the header on top of this page, my show is every Sunday, from 10am to noon. Yeah, sometimes it sucks. Instead of my Saturday nights being filled with plenty of booze and sex a la the rockabilly lifestyle, I usually keep myself in check, especially if I have to get a few things ready last minute. I’m not a big lush, but I’m only 22. I can if I wanna.

By the time I get to the station, I’m usually stressed from the commute or exhausted from late nights, and I’ve mentioned it a few times that I’d rather be sleeping than doing my show that early. By 10:30, I’m rocking, I’m in the zone, I’m excited to play each new song and I’m awake.
What most 1190 listeners know is that I took the spot of a long-time Americana/honky tonk DJ that had a very faithful following. Now, I was really nervous. Not only had I never had my own show before, but I was taking a coveted spot with a lot of loyal 1190 veterans who knew about rockabilly literally before I was even born. Almost every week I get a call from an Uncle Jeff fan saying that they continued to listen to my show because of how well I made the transition. I mean, I can’t even imagine going from hearing an experienced older guy DJ to a girl that had only gone on the air about 3 times beforehand.
With the winter schedule winding down and word on the street that Uncle Jeff is coming back, I received a lot of calls this morning asking if I was leaving. One listener said “When I heard Uncle Jeff wasn’t there, I was heartbroken, and now I’m afraid I’m going to be heartbroken again if you leave!” And I can attest that as many times as I’ve heard “I love your show!” I never get tired of hearing it. It’s way better than hearing “You fucking blow. I’m never listening to this station ever again.”
So, although my Saturday nights may not be as exciting as some other 22-year-olds’, when a guy calls me on Elvis’s birthday and says “Long live the Queen!”, my Sunday mornings more than make up for it.
Here’s to another year of great rockabilly!
